The Lords and Commons Cricket Club

The Lords and Commons Cricket Club (LCCC) is believed to go back to at least 1850, making it one of the oldest cricket clubs in the world. Its players come from all areas of the House and are by no means uniform in their level of skill. Some are former First Class cricketers, whilst the enthusiasm of others more than makes up for their lack of ability.

The LCCC is active throughout the year, using nets at the Oval during winter and playing across the country (usually once a week) during the summer. This year has been a particularly successful session, as the club played at Lords for the first time since the war and also went on tour to Oporto in Portugal to raise funds for charity.

Would you like to play for the Lords and Commons Cricket Club?

It is open to peers and members, peers’ and members’ staff, and house staff.  The Lords and Commons Cricket Club has a full fixture list each year of matches.  Their matches vary in ability from the very modest to the quite good.  If you are interested in playing cricket at all next summer, please let James Morris know so that he can add you to the distribution list.  Please also let him know what you do.  All are welcome, and he will email those who have expressed an interest nearer the time.

The Lords and Commons Cricket Club is open to Members of Parliament, Peers and their staff.

For further information, please contact James Morris on 020 7219 8715

Westminster Wanderers Football Club

Players wanted for successful Football Club in South London Westminster.

Wanderers are an established and successful Sunday League Football Club playing in and around Wandsworth and Merton.  We are looking for new players for the 2016-17 season.

We were born out of the Conservative Central Office side of the 1990s but now have Labour, Liberal and Tory staffers on the side as well as parliamentary researchers, civil servants and PR and PA professionals.  We welcome new players and the growth of the club in a few years is because we are well organised and attract and retain good players.

We play in the Southern Sunday Football League. Our three league teams play to a high standard, train regularly and our home ground is on Tooting Common. We play friendly fixtures and train throughout the year in Battersea Park.

If you are a committed player who wants to be part of a successful club then please contact the Club Chairman Alex Aiken at westminsterwanderers@gmail.com.

The club will be running training sessions during August on Tuesday and Thursday nights and plays 8-a-side on Monday evenings.   New players are welcome to come to any of these sessions.

The All Party Parliamentary Humanist Group is a cross-party group of Members of the House of Commons and the House of Lords of all the main parties, including members from the Crossbenches in the Lords. The Group has grown rapidly, from its first beginnings in the 1960s; in 1996 it had 47 members and it now has over 100. Associate membership of the Group is also open to staff of MPs and peers and staff working for the House of Commons or House of Lords.

The British Humanist Association provides the secretariat for the Group.

The Group meets around four times a year to hear speakers and discuss relevant issues, as well as to share information and receive briefings on matters of interest. These matters are wide-ranging and include the promotion of a rational approach to bioethical, medical, and scientific issues, the defence of free speech, civil liberties and education.

Village Drinks

Village Drinks is a networking group for gay, lesbian, and bisexual professionals. Our events are very popular amongst political, financial and legal industries, but are open to anyone who lives, works or just wants to visit the West End of London to meet likeminded professionals.

So – for each event we select a great venue; one that’s not too expensive; and one that’s large enough to comfortably accommodate our crowd. Where possible we have a happy hour. We meet. We chat. We drink. Oh, and we also throw in a complimentary glass of wine (because we’re nice like that).

Our guests make the night what it is; a chance to network with other like-minded professionals; politicians, bankers, lawyers, media – the list is all encompassing.

Then – after the event – you can keep in touch with people you’ve met at our event through our free online community, Village People.

So, please sign up to our website, upload your own profile and come join us at our next event. It’s a lot of fun!
